This presentation will cover understanding what you have in your fiber and how best to utilize it for end use. End use may be processing it on your own through mini mills, contributing to fiber coops or fiber pools or developing product for retail sales. We will cover fleece properties of importance in processing, options for various parts of the fleee as well as end product packaging, labeling laws and new product development. The talk will wrap up with a discussion on future possibilities and trends in the textile industry.
Wini Labrecque is a textile artist with interest in a wide variety of techniques. She has a very strong passion for fiber. Since the late 1980's, utilizing natural fibers, Wini has been spinning, weaving, knitting and felting from raw form to finished product. Her handspun skeins and woven/knit goods are sold at area art festivals and in area specialty shops. Many have taken ribbons at various shows Wini is an AOBA Certified Alpaca Fleece Judge for the alpaca industry. She is also a Certified Camelid Fiber Grader/Sorter through Olds College in Canada and is apprenticing for Certification in Camelid Fiber Classing. In addition, Wini has completed courses in grading/sorting of cashmere fiber and judging of cashmere fiber.
